First. I teach art because I understand the mechanics of the medium, the journey, the practice and experimentation necessary to become articulate and original. I teach art in order to share the responsibility of defining culture, writing history, unfurling the imagination, inciting activism, examining beauty, sadness and mystery, and to provide entertainment. Art is very powerful.
Second. I am drawn to studio settings and the energy of students creating. Artists interacting with other artists is essential to developing the critique as well as a supportive community willing to share discoveries.
Third. Work ethic. I hope to cultivate a strong work ethic, team practice, and professionalism. This will expedite employment upon graduation. I am rigorous and consistent in impressing the importance of professional behavior in classrooms.
Finally, I am an artist of 40 years and I still find my heart moved in Life Drawing class as I see a delicate and nuanced portrayal unfold, a student hopelessly falling in love with the flow of a line or smudging of charcoal. It is my hope to share what I have learned with those, whom like me, “hear the far off whispers of eternity”. *Oliver Wendell Holmes
